We are excited to offer a selected number of 6-month paid traineeships for young people aged 18 - 25 starting from October 2023 until September 2025. Traineeships will be hosted at both The Watermill Theatre or Corn Exchange Newbury providing varied opportunities across different areas of the arts sector.

Watermill Theatre

Customer Experience Traineeship

Venue: The Watermill Theatre

Customer experience is at the heart of any theatre and The Watermill Theatre is no exception. From the point they book their tickets to the moment they leave the theatre, everyone is ensuring ht every customer has a positive experience. This role will work across Box Office, Front of House and Marketing, learning about customer service, supporting the teams to engage previous and new audiences and support the set up and running of events.

Community Engagement Traineeship

Venue: Corn Exchange Newbury

This traineeship will work closely with the Learning and Participation team to support the day to day operatiions and adminstrations of a busy team in a creative environment. This role will be a varied one supporting the practical set up and resourcing of participatory workshops, both at our Learning Centre and within external settings. It will also involve providing administrative support to a range of activities including our Youth Theatre, and schools programmes, as well as our community focused activity for over 55s, Ageing Creatively.

Technical Traineeship

Venue: Corn Exchange Newbury

In this role you will develop the skills, knowledge and experience to work as part of a technical team. The successful candidate will work at the Corn Exchange in the Technical Department. You will help and assist visiting companies to stage their event, including load-ins, get-outs & show operation duties. Your role will aslo cover programming and scheduling of films, working as a show crew member for the pantomime and working on outdoor events and activities at 101 Outdoor Arts.

Creative Traineeship

Venue: The Watermill Theatre

As a producing theatre, The Watermill Theatre has a busy stage management, production and wardrobe team who oversee the process of taking a production from page to stage. The successful candidate will work closely with these teams to turn designs and ideas into a reality. This could include making props, creating costumes or painting sets.

Details for Trainees

Trainees will receive training and mentorship from experienced members of staff and will be supported and empowered to seek further employments in the arts beyond their 6-month placement.
